Founded in 1903, Atlanta Sand & Supply Company began as a modest sand operation in Crawford County, Georgia. What started with hand-shoveled sand has grown into a thriving enterprise that supplies high-quality sand to industries across the Southeast. Built on a foundation of hard work, family, and integrity, our journey has spanned over a century of innovation and adaptation.
In the early years, the company thrived through vertical integration, from owning a ready-mix operation to diversifying into the industrial sand business. Under the ownership of Frank Jamison and Pyott Jamison, the business expanded in the 1950s and 60s, introducing modern production techniques, bagged sand products, and pioneering dry sand production in the region.
The 1970s brought new challenges as federal regulations increased and the demand for environmental stewardship became the standard. Atlanta Sand was among the first to embrace these changes, taking proactive steps to reclaim mined land, comply with new safety standards, and partner with organizations like the Georgia Mining Association.
As the 1990s ushered in new opportunities, the Jamison family continued to innovate, adapting to shifts in the economy and diversifying into timber management and further diversifying into new products such as golf course sand production. The turn of the millennium saw major milestones, including the acquisition of a construction sand plant in Byron, GA, a greenfield operation in Wrens, GA, and a continued focus on innovative new bagging equipment for the industrial sand operation.
The 2000s were marked by a commitment to sustainability, safety, and modernization. As leadership transitioned from the Jamison family to Jeff Avant—the first non-family president—the company maintained its core values while driving operational efficiencies. With a mindset of continuous improvement and employing new dredging techniques, Atlanta Sand has positioned itself at the forefront of the industry in the southeast.
Today, Atlanta Sand & Supply Company remains a family-owned business dedicated to quality, safety, and responsible mining. As we look toward the future, we’re not just building a better product; we’re building on a legacy that honors our past and embraces innovation, ensuring we continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers, employees and the communities in which we operate.
